For the overlay dress with godets: you want something sheer, flowing or layered, to allow the godets to show movement and create a floaty effect. Tulle, chiffon, organza are excellent. Consider the length options (mini or full length) when selecting fabric quantity and width: for a full-length slip + godets you may need generous yardage. Texture and finish: If you want a sleek evening look, go with silk satin/charmeuse; for a relaxed daytime or summer version, linen–viscose, cotton blends, even rayon are feasible.
